This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
