The President Welcomes Families of Injured Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Mourners came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that educators wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the press. “She was kind, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and cease granting visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed the program that she aimed to meet with the family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor told the gathering at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
