Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with results so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
