People have assembled throughout the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-initiated offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident led to over 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "realize all the aims of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities postponed formal memorials until 16 October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still took place across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israelis killed in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was broadcast on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' delegations convened in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to review the conditions of the agreement.

A senior delegate involved in the talks said that an night meeting of indirect talks started at evening in Egypt.

The source explained the day's discussions finished without significant progress, due to differences over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not restart combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "difficult and have yet to deliver any real breakthrough," but pointed out that facilitators are striving to reduce the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Critical Matters in Talks

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The trade of the prisoners still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies distribution
  • Future administration of the territory

Civilian Reaction

In the city's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother survived the incident on the outdoor event, where hundreds were murdered and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "Nowhere seems like home any longer and until all the hostages return not a single person will be secure."

"When we see everyone home returned, we can breathe again. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.

Near the prime minister's residence in the capital, people assembled to demonstrate their support for the relatives of the hostages. Israel says 48 remain in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Protester Atalia Regev stated: "It's necessary do every compromise necessary for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be secure."

Research now regularly indicate that around the majority of Israeli citizens want the conflict to finish in exchange for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the music event, grieving people assembled to honor the dead.

From that location, the sound of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers indicated the severe Israeli shelling carried on.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and zone areas and in the east side area of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the night comes, the dread comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the attacks. During nighttime we are sleeping together, embracing, notably my youngest child who rests his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we check the reports to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be achieved and that the fighting will come back to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had taken in the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part district.

Another medical facility in the south region of the city indicated additional dead people had been delivered. A person was died by Israeli troops while seeking aid to the south region, medics stated.

The region's health ministry announced twenty-five of the {territ
